Daily backups should be done very early in the morning such as between 2 or 4 eastern when the site is not used as much. It may be used more other times than not, but 9 in the morning usually sees several logged in. :)

I agree. *smile* Many times, including today, I've written a reply to a board and had it eaten because the site was down for maintenance.

Eleni, when writing replies to boards at that time of morning, I save a copy before I send it. That way, if the site eats it, I won't have to rewrite it.

I can pass this on to the other staff. But be warned, no matter when we do back-ups, someone is going to be unhappy. What's four A.M to those in the US is mid morning to those in the UK, for example. That's not a good time for them, either. I'm not sure what made the admins pick the time they did.

agree with alicia - I always save my board posts before posting them in the event the site goes down/I lose my internet connection etc.

4 in the morning new york time is 9 in the morning UK time. The reality is that there will always be people that will be affected by the backups no matter what time of the day they happen.

Perhaps just try to think of them as a reminder that there is life beyond the zone? lol.

i agree with clare and alicia. i think no matter when we choose the backups, someone's gonna post and complain. they arn't long anyway, just about 5 minits, really can't understand why everyone fusses about them

ummm but I hate commercial breaks in between to my cyber cessions, you know. lol.

However, it's surely gona affect someone. since it's a small 5 minutes pee break, just ignoring is the best thing, in my opinion.

Raaj.

Yeah. I agree. It's a minor annoyance, but not everyone can be happy with the time chosen, and it's only five minutes. If you're posting to a board, or even playing a game, just keep the site up, refresh in about five minutes, and you should be good to go.

I agree with those who say you can't please everyone.

Oh goodness, I thought this was going to be a topic concerning backing up of computer data. Run around, get some fresh air, take a bath, feed your dog, then return.
